Mountain LayoutSnowboarding
Snowboarders
love Sun Peaks. There are virtually no traverses with the exception
of the Mt. Morrisey Connector run. Freeriders can choose everything
from long, fall-line groomers to an incredible number of gladed
runs. Even a rookie powder boarder will enjoy the Cahilty Glades.
If you're looking for excitement, do the Chute trees, the Pink Flamingos
or hike into the Gils backcountry.
Parks
and pipes
Sun Peaks is a popular stop on the FIS Grundig Snowboard World Cup,
so they take their parks and pipes seriously. The 2,500-foot-long
terrain park covers 30 acres just to the left of the Sundance
Express. There's an excellent halfpipe right underneath the lift.
It's 325 feet long with an average slope of 20 degrees. It's maintained with a HPG 12-foot radius grinder. A well-designed
half-mile-long permanent boardercross coursewith tabletops,
spines and a variety of hits that are frequently changed and maintainedleads
down from the halfpipe to the terrain park. Improvements to the terrain parks on Sundance Mountain include rails, jumps and fun boxes, an expanded green/blue terrain park and a new edge park bully grooming machine. There's also a cool
mini-terrain park area for beginners.
