At Sun Peaks' Annual Icewine Festival, started in 1999 and held in January (check their website for yearly dates which vary. 2007 dates are Jan. 14-18.) Participants slip and stroll between village hotels and restaurants with glass in hand on a progressive wine-tasting adventure. At least 20 Okanagan Valley wineries are featured with more than 100 wines. Festival events include tastings, a gourmet winemasters' dinner, seminars and an awards presentation. Festival activities are scheduled for the late afternoon and evening to allow for skiing, dogsledding, snowshoeing, ice skating, snowmobiling and other winter fun during the day. Many visitors gather for this annual event as repeat customers who wouldn't even dream of skiing! It's a great time to visit, mix and match.

The resort offers daily cat skiing and riding tours from the summit that are quite popular, so book as early as possible. For another kind of adrenaline rush, try snowbiking. An Olympic-sized, flood-lit skating rink offers drop-in hockey, skate rentals, stick rentals and more. When you're done skating, relax at the nearby Sports Centre in the outdoor pool or hot tub.

Special activities that children will especially enjoy are mini-snowmobiles, a bungy trampoline, tobogganing and a lift access area for tubing, night skiing and boarding that's open until 8 p.m.

One-hour dogsled rides leave from the horse barn at the east end of the village. You can even try your hand at mushing your own team if you're 14 or older. Tours are offered Tuesday to Sunday at 10 a.m., noon and 3 p.m. Visit the Resort Activity & Information Centre (578-5542) in the Village Day Lodge for tickets. Sleigh rides leave from the Village Day Lodge. Choose between valley tours or evening dessert rides.

Sun Peaks Adventure Tours (578-5542) supplies helmets with visors and all exterior clothing (except gloves). Snowmobile drivers must have a driver's license; passengers need only be adults or have parental consent. Choose from a regular snow machine or high-performance. For information about or reservations for all other activities call (578-5542).
