Sunday River, Maine

Getting there:

By air: The most convenient commercial airport is Portland International Jetport, 75 miles from Sunday River. Private pilots can land in Bethel. Bethel Express Corporation will pick up from either airport by reservation (824-4646).

By car: Sunday River is in western Maine an hour and a half from Portland and three-and-a-half hours (with no traffic) from Boston. From I-95, take Exit 11 in Maine to Rte. 26 north, continue to Bethel, then take Rte. 2 six miles north to Sunday River.

RV parking, no hookups, is allowed in designated parking areas at the resort. An RV park is also at White Birch Camping, in Shelburne on Rte. 2.

DIRECTIONS TO SUNDAY RIVER | MOUNTAIN EXPLORER SHUTTLE RESORT TRANSPORT

Getting around: During the main part of the season, on-mountain transportation between the base areas is quite good on shuttlebuses that look like old trolley cars. The shuttle loop expands to include the condos at night. In shoulder season, the mountain shuttles are by request only. Several off-mountain properties, such as the Sunday River Inn and the Bethel Inn, have shuttle service to and from the slopes. Midwinter, you can get along without a car, but they’re nice to have, especially if you want to go to Bethel. Early or late season, you’ll need one.
