Getting there:
By air: Numerous flights arrive at the Burlington International Airport, which is 45 minutes from Stowe. Most hotels have a transfer service; you can also rent a car. The Stowe Area Association provides discounts on flights and rental cars when you make your hotel reservations.
By train: A romantic trip aboard Amtraks Vermonter offers private berths, cocktail-bearing attendants and the incomparable sensation of watching the moonlit landscape of New England whirl past your window to the lonely call of the train whistle. You arrive in Waterbury, 15 miles from Stowe, early in the morning (the Stowe trolley meets each daily arrival and departure). Reservations required. The Stowe Area Association offers 10 percent off Amtrak tickets with no date restrictions.
By car: Distance from Boston is about 205 miles; from New York, 325 miles. The resort is a few miles north of Waterbury Exit 10 on I-89.
Getting around:
You can
manage without a car, but we recommend one. We realize that this
will only contribute to increased street congestion, but the alternative
is the Town Trolley, which runs between the village of Stowe and
Mt. Mansfield. It provides, in the words of a British journalist
who begged a ride back into town with us, an epic voyage.
The trolley. Makes. A lot. Of stops. Between town. And. The. Mountain.
But it's free and runs from the village from 7:30 a.m. to 4:30 p.m., and from the mountain from 8 a.m. to 5 p.m. at 30-minute intervals.
