Stowe has one of the best cross-country networks in the country. Four touring areas all interconnect to provide roughly 150 groomed km. of trails, and an additional 110 km. in the backcountry. Plus there are a slew of trails for snowshoeing. Here's a trail map.

The Trapp Family Lodge (253-5719; 800-826-7000) organized America’s first touring center and has 60 km. of groomed and machine-tracked trails that connect to another 100 km. in the Mt. Mansfield and Topnotch Resort networks. Trapp’s also has 45 km. of backcountry trails. Rentals and instruction are available. The Edson Hill Touring Center (253-7371) has about 50 km. of trails with 25 km. of them groomed. Elevation varies from 1,400 to 2,100 feet. Stowe Mountain Resort (253-3000) has 80 km. of trails, 35 km. of which are groomed. The Topnotch Resort (253-8585) has 30 km. of trails, most of which are groomed and tracked.
