Apres-Ski / Nightlife (Area code 304)
A surprising amount of activity goes on here after dark, including night skiing. If you're looking for a bar scene or club, you can easily find it.
For immediate apres-ski head to The Junction,
packed with tourists, or to Foxfire Grill and hang out with
patrollers and instructors. Foxfire keeps heating up and the crowd
stays late. Yodelers Pub also draws a good bar crowd as the day skiing ends and then again late in the evening. The Boiler Room, found a bit out of the way at the top of the Widowmaker
lift, serves unremarkable burgers and Mexican fare, but somehow
manages to have one fine bar. Gregarious bartenders, good brew and
an altogether very friendly locals atmosphere make it a good
spot for a drink.
Later on Snowshoe keeps rocking. The Connection
is the hottest spot on the mountain. Yes, its in the Shavers
Centre base facility, so theres nothing exotic about it, but
the upstairs club scene really does rock. Live bands and a DJ are
a regular feature, plus theres pool, foosball, some video
games and a large-screen TV. The partying usually lasts well into
the night.
Comedy
Cellar Bar (572-5440 for performance information) is squirreled
away in the basement of the almost dorm-like Mountain Lodge. The
bar itself is small and intimate and open nightly Tuesdays Saturdays
at 9 p.m. Local Roy Riley (an OK performer himself) shares the small
stage with one or two pros who frequent the national circuit for
a full evening of stand-up comedy. Its definitely adult entertainment,
and its lots of fun.
If youre staying over on the family-oriented
Silver Creek side, you have two choices right in Silver Creek Lodge.
The Bears Den is on the second floor, a fine spot to
take in a quiet beer or hot drink on a cold day. At Misty's Sports Bar, you can quench your thirst while playing billiards or foosball. |
