Cross-country and snowshoeing

Personal fitness trainer Bonnie Golden runs Taos Fitness Adventures (505-751-5977), with guided cross-country skiing and snowshoeing in the winter, plus hiking and custom programs in warmer weather. Southwest Nordic Center (505-758-4761) has cross-country lessons, tours and yurt trips. Enchanted Forest Cross-Country Ski Area (505-754-2374) is 40 miles northeast of Taos by Hwys. 522 and 38. It has 34 km. of backcountry trails, some groomed, and an elevation of 10,300 feet, from which you have great views of the Moreno and Red River valleys. Trail rates are $10 for adults, with discounts for teens, seniors and children. At the Miller’s Crossing headquarters in downtown Red River, you can rent equipment (including pulks) and pick up trail maps.
