Ivano’s Ristorante (208-263-0211; $–$$$), a gracious Italian restaurant in Sandpoint, has been in business for more than 20 years and is one of the locals’ favorites. An extensive entree selection includes pasta, fresh seafood, buffalo, beef, chicken, veal and vegetarian dishes.

Cafe Trinity (208-225-7558; $–$$$), one of Sandpoint’s newest culinary additions, specializes in Creole cooking. Just two of many favorites are the spunky crawfish chowder and the pecan-crusted chicken salad. Swan’s Landing (208-265-2000; $–$$$), a premiere steakhouse on the south end of the Long Bridge, pairs fabulous sunsets with Black Angus beef.

Chimney Rock Grill (208-255-3071; $$; above), in the Selkirk Lodge at the mountain, is known for its regional cuisine and serves an $18 seafood boil to die for. It includes three kinds of mussels, three kinds of clams, tiger shrimp, French bread, corn on the cob, potatoes, salad and is nicely finished off with huckleberry cheesecake.

For breakfast or lunch and great views, try Cabinet Mountain Coffee in the Lakeview Lodge. Stella’s Provisions in the village is a one-stop, no frills sandwich shop with just what you need to keep you on the go.

If you have a car, visit The Lodge on Hidden Lakes (208-263-1642: $$–$$$), 8 miles east of Sandpoint. The kitchen offers homemade soups, breads, views and a warm atmosphere with food to match.
