Portillo, Chile, South America

Dining

The guests in the Hotel Portillo and Octagon have their meals in the Main Dining Room (left). This four star restaurant overlooks La Laguna del Inca, and takes pride in its excellent service and food. No one ever goes hungry here. Indeed, many put on a pound or two by the end of the week. Each meal has a set menu with two to three selections. Additional options can be purchased from the ala carte menu for an extra charge ($$-$$$).

The cafeteria, which is for employees and guests in the Inca Lodge, serves four meals a day and is a great place to meet some of the mountain's locals.

Tio Bob’s (right; $-$$) is the only on-mountain restaurant. It sits 1,000 vertical feet above the lake and hotel. The lunch menu sells burgers, steaks, and salads. Cold beers are also a favorite here, and are often enjoyed while taking in the world class view.

The Posada Restaurant (left, $-$$) is directly across the street from the entrance of Portillo, and is an economical choice for the day trippers from the valley before the journey down canyon.

Dining Legend: $$$$–Entrees $30+; $$$–$20–$30; $$–$10–$20; $–less than $10.
