First-class hotel amenities are available at the full-service, 117-room Jackson Gore Inn (800-786-5366; $$$–$$$$). Accommodations are high-quality and comfortable, ranging from standard hotel rooms to one- to three-bedroom units, with full kitchen and jetted tubs. There’s an indoor-outdoor heated pool, restaurant and lounge, health club and underground parking. Okemo has many slopeside condos and townhouses (800-786-5366; right). Per-person rates vary widely depending on proximity to the slopes and size, but a range for a five-night ski week would be $375–$850 off-mountain to $450–$1,000+ slopeside. Kids ages 12 and younger stay free at Okemo Mountain Resort condos. As always, ask about packages.

The Okemo/Ludlow area, including Chester, Springfield, Weston, Plymouth and Proctorsville, has more than 50 country inns, B&Bs and motels.

The Governor’s Inn (800-468-3766; 228-8830; $$–$$$$) is on Main Street and is one of Ludlow’s nicest lodges. All rooms have private baths and are furnished in Victorian fashion, complete with puffy comforters. Rates include breakfast only or breakfast and dinner. The six-course dinners are preceded by hors d’oeuvres in the den. The Andrie Rose Inn (800-223-4846; 228-4846; $$$–$$$$), is a country inn tucked on a side street in downtown Ludlow. Most rooms have jetted tubs, and the suites have fireplaces. The inn also has well-appointed condos, some that sleep as many as 12.

North of Ludlow on Route 100, The Echo Lake Inn (800-356-6844; 228-3075; $$–$$$$; left) is a rambling New England inn. It has been completely refurbished with an excellent dining room and cozy public rooms. Presidents Coolidge and McKinley slept here. Rates with breakfast only or with breakfast and dinner are available. The Inn at Water’s Edge (228-8143; $$$–$$$$), also north on Rte. 100 on the shores of Echo Lake, is a completely refurbished 150-year-old Victorian home. It has a traditional English pub and 11 small, antique-furnished rooms. Rates include breakfast, dinner served fireside and afternoon tea. Of note, the inn caters to couples.

The Hawk Inn and Mountain Resort (800-685-4295; 672-3811; $$$$), 9 miles north of Okemo on Rte. 100, has luxury country inn and townhouse facilities. This complex features an indoor/outdoor pool, sauna, sleigh rides and fine dining. Rates include breakfast.

Castle Hill Resort & Spa (800-438-7908; 226-7688; $$$$) is a gracious, turn-of-the-century former Governor’s mansion. The owners have painstakingly preserved the old-world standard for luxury and ambiance and have furnished the entire mansion with period furniture. The food is exceptional and the dining room extremely romantic. In 2004, the inn added a full-service Aveda Fitness Center and Spa.

The Cavendish Pointe Hotel (800-438-7908; 226-7688; $$–$$$), 2 miles from Okemo on Route 103, is a 70-room country-style hotel, with restaurant, indoor pool, lounge and game room.

The Best Western Colonial Motel (228-8188; $$–$$$) offers very affordable lodging within walking distance of Ludlow’s shopping, nightlife and dining. Happy Trails Motel (800-228-9984; 228-8888; $$–$$$) in Ludlow offers great bargains with a good hot tub. The Timber Inn Motel (228-8666; $–$$) has the cheapest rates in town.
