Lodging (Area Code 541)
Mt. Bachelor's nearest accommodations
are 14 miles away in or near Bend, population 50,000.
The
most extensive lodging complex is Sunriver (800-547-3922;
$$$$$$; left), a resort community 18 miles from Mt.
Bachelor and 15 miles south of Bend. It has a private airport, restaurants,
stores and many activities. Sunriver's transportation shuttles run
throughout the expansive resort complex, and another shuttle goes
between Sunriver and Mt. Bachelor (and costs a couple bucks each
way, though this fee is included in some packages). But getting
to Bend is tough without your own car.
Seventh Mountain Resort (800-452-6810 in the U.S. or
800-874-9402 from Canada; 382-8711; $$$$$; below) is
Mt. Bachelor's closest lodging (14 miles), with restaurants, a grocery store,
a skating rink, hot tub, snowmobile and sleigh rides and a shuttle
to the mountain (which costs about $5). The resort has 230 condominium units in a campus-style setting. It sparkles from its 2005 $20 million renovation and its new general manager comes straight from The Lodges at Deer Valley.
Bend's
most deluxe lodge is Riverhouse (800-547-3928; 381-3111;
$$$$), nestled along the river close to restaurants and entertainment.
Pool, indoor and outdoor spas and a Nautilus exercise room make
this a mini-resort in the heart of town.
Bend has many other places to stay, including five RV parks,
plus there is additional lodging in neighboring towns. Phone the
Bend Visitors' Information Center for more information, 382-3221,
or use the Central Oregon Visitors Association toll-free
number, (800) 800-8334, to book lodging, packages and transportation.
