Condominiums
and several lodges at the base area have shuttle service to the
slopes. Most of the other lodging lines Rte. 100 between the slopes
and Wilmington, with some tucked on side roads back into the foothills.
Per-person rates start at about $153 for two-day weekend packages. A one-night package combines one hotel night with a day of skiing starting at $70 a day. Condominiums
Rates are based on the size of the unit and number of bathrooms. They start at about $305 on the weekends; half that midweek.
The Seasons, Snow Tree, Snowmountain and Deer Creek Condominiums (800-451-4211; 464-7788; $$$$$$$)
are at the base of the lifts, but only the Seasons complex is actually
ski-in/ski-out. Seasons condos are the most highly recommended
with an athletic center, indoor pools, saunas and hot tubs. Two-bedroom/two-bath
units cost around $900 for a weekend.
Timber
Creek Townhomes (800-982-8922; 464-1222; $$$$) are luxury condos
across Rte. 100 from the ski area. They have a fitness center and
18 km. of cross-country trails just outside. Shuttlebuses run between
the complex and the ski area. Greenspring at Mount Snow (800-247-7833;
464-7111; $$$$$$$) are upscale condos a mile from the slopes.
This complex has the best athletic center in the area.
Hotels
The Mt Snow Resort Hotel & Conference Center (800-498-0479; $$$$$$$; right) is a slopeside ski-in/ski-out, full-service resort hotel with 200 rooms, ranging from studios to 3-bedroom units. It has a heated outdoor pool and hot tubs, indoor sauna and steam room, fitness center, spa, restaurant, game room and wi-fi .
Inns
Snow Lake Lodge (800-451-4211; 464-7788; $$$$$; left) is a sprawling 92-room mountain lodge near the base of Mount Snow. While fairly basic, the lodge does have a fitness center, sauna, indoor hot tub, outdoor hot tub and apres-ski entertainment. The Sundance lift is a 300-yard walk or a free shuttle ride away. The lodge is excellent with children.
The
Inn at Sawmill Farm (802-464-8131; 464-8131; $$$$),a Relais
and Chateaux propety located nearby,
is one of the nation's top country inns. Secluded in a renovated
dairy barn and outbuildings, the inn coddles guests with spacious
rooms decorated in a country chic style. Fresh flowers, wood-burning
fires, meticulous service and an excellent dining room complete
the picture. The inn is not suitable for children, nor does it take
credit cards.
The
White House of Wilmington (464-2135; $$$$$), Rte. 9, Wilmington,
is an upscale, romantic 23-room inn serving breakfast and dinner.
The inn has an indoor pool.
Less
than a quarter-mile from Mount Snow, the Big Bear Lodge (800-388-5591;
464-5591; $$$$) is family-friendly and comes highly recommended
by the locals.
Andirons
Lodge (800-445-7669; 464-2114; $$; right),on Rte. 100
in West Dover, is just 2 miles from the lifts. While somewhat short
on hospitality, this motel offers low-cost lodging in simple paneled
rooms with double beds and has an indoor pool, a sauna and a game
room called the Billiard Sanctuary. The attached Dover Forge restaurant
serves affordable meals.
Nordic
Hills Lodge (800-326-5130; 464-5130; $$$$), 179 Coldbrook Rd.
in Wilmington, is friendly and clean. Rates include breakfast and
dinner.
Gray
Ghost Inn (800-745-3615; 464-2474; $$$$$; below),
on Rte. 100, West Dover, is a large country inn operated by a British
couple. Many rooms have smaller beds or bunk beds for children,
and there is a game room. Rates include a continental breakfast. Trails
End (800-859-2585; 464-2727; $$$$$), on Smith Road in
Wilmington, has 15 country-style rooms. Meals are served family-style
at three round tables, so visitors will no doubt make new friends.
Old
Red Mill (800-843-8483; 464-3700; $$$), Rte. 100 in Wilmington,
was created from a former sawmill and is one of the bargains in
the region. Rooms are small, only about 7 by 12 feet with a double
bed, but all have TV. Larger rooms are available for families. The
common areas are rustic.
Horizon
Inn (800-336-5513; 464-2131; $$$$), Rte. 9 in Wilmington
and 13 miles from Mount Snow, has an indoor heated pool, whirlpool,
sauna and game room.
Bed
& Breakfasts
Mount Snow also has a group of charming and elegant B&Bs with
rates starting at about $125 per night on weekends and $70 midweek.
These B&Bs are smaller, most with fewer than 15 rooms.
The
Inn at Quail Run (800-343-7227; 464-3362; $$$$) is recommended
by locals and welcomes both children and pets. Its brunch is considered
the best in the valley.
In
West Dover: The Doveberry Inn (800-722-3204; 464-5652; $$),
on Rte. 100, is run by Michael and Christine Fayette, both culinary-school-trained
chefs. This inn is not suitable for young children. West Dover
Inn (800-732-0745; 464-5207; $$), also on Rte. 100, is an historic
country inn built in 1846. It has 12 elegant rooms furnished with
antiques, hand-sewn quilts and color TVs, as well as two suites
with fireplaces and jetted tubs. Deerhill Inn (800-464-3100;
$$$$$$), on Valley View Road, is a chef-owned romantic hillside
inn with panoramic views of Mount Snow.
In
Wilmington: The Red Shutter Inn (800-845-7548; 464-3768;
$$$$$), on Rte. 9, is a country home built in 1894 that has
been converted into an elegant country inn with nine guest rooms.
The Nutmeg Inn (464-3351; $$$$$), on Rte. 9W, was built
in the 1770s and has 10 rooms and three fireplace suites decorated
with country accents and quilts.
