For those living in the Northeasts major metropolitan areas
such as New York, Albany and Hartford, Mount Snow, in southern Vermont,
with a summit elevation of 3,600 feet, is renowned as the closest
big-mountain resort.
Thanks in part to local gal Kelly Clark winning gold in the halfpipe at the 2002 Olympics, Mount Snow is attracting the hipthe freeriders who want to see action and be part of it. Events like a snocross (snowmobile motocross races) and ridercross series bring thrills and spills to the resort. While snocross is all about spectating, anyoneskiers, snowboarders and skiboarderscan enter the NASTAR races. Big Air and freeskiing competitionswith names such as Mother Hucker and Anti-Gravity Grailalso dot the winter calendar.
Along with the free-spirited crowd, Mount Snow is
a big draw for families for both the terrain and the price. The
mountains ego-boosting trails are long, undulating cruiser
runs, where kids can learn and parents can enjoy their turns. The
nine sections of gladed terrainregularly thinned and prunedmean
even intermediates can feel extreme.
New ownership in 2007-08 has meant a new committment to snowmaking throughout the resort.
