Loon Mountain Resort, New Hampshire

Mountain Layout — Snowboarding

Picaroon, which runs under the gondola, is narrow and has plentiful rollers. For glades, try Bucksaw, off North Peak.

Parks and pipes
The Kanc Quad and the Seven Brothers lift provide easy access to the Loon Mountain Park. The gondola is also an option, if you don’t mind the long run from the summit to the top of the park, between Lower Picked Rock and Picaroon. Jumps range in difficulty from little ones that give newbies just a few inches of air under their boards to hit-it-for-all-you’re-worth-and-hope-you-make-it-to-the-landing kickers. Features include handrails, a doghouse box, a rollercoaster rail and a 16-foot wall ride. Our riders found good transitions and smooth landings in the park, but the superpipe could use more frequent grooming. Loon also has three Pocket Parks: Both Lower Picked Rock (with tabletops and a rail) and Bear Island Bypass (with berms and rollers) are designed for beginners. Little Sister is a boardercross with berms and rollers. Rounding out Loon’s parks is The Junkyard, off the Little Sister lift, created as a playground for those using snowplay toys such as snowdecks, skibikes and snowscoots.
