Lodging (Area
code 603)
The
Mountain Club on Loon (800-229-7829; 745-2244) is a ski-in/ski-out
property with everything under one roof, from parking to swimming
pool, fitness club to restaurants. A full-service spa opened in
late 2003. Note: Many of its rooms have a double Murphy bed with
two small day beds along the windows. This arrangement is fine for
couples, or for a family with young children, but it is awkward
for two adults who dont want to sleep in the same bed. Instead,
request two rooms that, when adjoined, make a suite. Loon also has
condominiums. Make reservations through the Mountain Club.
The Comfort Inn (800-228-5150;
745-6700; $$) is right off I-93 at Hobo Railroad. It has both regular
hotel rooms and one-bedroom suites with kitchenettes. Two prominent
properties on the Kancamagus Highway (Main Street) in Lincoln are
The Mill House Inn (800-654-6183; 745-6261; $$$$) at
The Mill and the Nordic Inn Condominium Resort (866-734-2164;
745-2230; $$$), which offers condominiums (studios to three
bedrooms). The Rivergreen Resort Hotel (800-654-6183; 745-2450;
$$$$$), owned by the same group that owns The Mill House Inn,
is another condominium hotel. The last in a trio of "Mill"
properties is The Lodge at Lincoln Station (800-654-6188;
745-3441; $$$$$), a hotel along the Pemigewasset River. Accommodations
are studios to one-bedroom suites. All of these properties are about
one mile west of Loon.
Another
couple miles away from Loon is The Woodstock Inn B&B
(800-321-3985; 745-3951; $$$), a typical New England lodge.
The main building is more than 100 years old, and no two rooms are
alike. Youll find the rooms tucked under the rafters, some
with private bath, or shared bath, all with casual charm. Some rooms
have hot tubs. The restaurant in the front of the inn is one of
North Woodstocks most elegant; the one in the station at the
rear is one of the towns liveliest.
Wilderness Inn B&B
(745-3890; $$$) welcomes families with youngsters. Parents
note: This place has laundry facilities. The B&B is only steps
from the center of North Woodstock, which is filled with shops and
restaurants.
Three motelish properties
along Rte. 3 in Lincoln, one exit up I-93 from Loon, have similar
accommodations and prices, but slightly different amenities. Indian
Head Motel Resort (800-343-8000; 745-8000; $$) is one of the
centers of apres-ski action, with live bands and great ice-skating
and cross-country skiing. The Beacon (800-258-8934; 745-8118;
$$$$) has indoor tennis and large indoor pools, but attracts
the bus-tour crowd. Woodwards Motor Inn (800-635-8968;
745-8141; $$$) is the most family oriented. It has the areas
only racquetball court and the best steaks in the region. Another
reasonably priced motel along this stretch of Rte. 3 is the Drummer
Boy Motor Inn (800-762-7275; 745-3661; $$$$), with an
indoor pool, guest laundry and free continental breakfast.
