Kicking Horse Mountain Resort, British Columbia, Canada

Mountain Layout—Snowboarding

The jump-offs into the bowls are gut-sucking even for skilled riders, and there are a lot of steep shots off the ridges. Many a rider has had to be rescued off cliff areas here because it’s impossible to change directions, so be careful and pay attention to your route. Make sure to ride the Stairway to Heaven for access to the black-diamond My Blue Heaven area.

Intermediates too have great choices all over the mountain. The mid-bowls are comprised of blue and green runs and a ride out and down Terminator will peg your fun meter for sure.

The most thrilling trees are under the Stairway to Heaven lift, but the woods lower down the mountain are also big and thick. Beginners will be comfortable in the Catamount lift region, where there are several green runs mixed with blues.

Parks and pipes
Kicking Horse has no plans to add terrain parks or pipes, but who needs ’em when most of the resort has above-Alpine heliskiing-quality snow and terrain? If you must, have a ball in the woods between Bubbly and Euphoria, where you’ll find a natural halfpipe and terrain park.
