Jiminy Peak Mountain Resort, Hancock, Massachusetts

Other activities (Area code 413)

At Jiminy, the skiing goes on until 10 PM. The Mountain Coaster, near the Country Inn, is an alpine slide/roller coaster combo ride that carries riders down a 2,600 foot twisting track with speed control up to the driver. It operates on weekends and holidays in winter. Single rides cost $8.50. When the family has had enough, you’ll find the heated pool at The Country Inn a relaxing spot.

The Berkshires is a treasure trove of other activities. Close to the mountain – less than a half hour drive - is Hancock Shaker Village (443-0188) restoration and museum and the Berkshire Museum (443-7171) in Pittsfield, the world renowned Sterling & Francine Clark Art Institute (528-2303) with its impressive collection of impressionist paintings in Williamstown, the sometimes quirky but always popular MASSMOCA (662-2111) in North Adams, the country's largest contemporary art museum, and the Williams College Museum of Art (597-2429), home to 12,000 works of art.

A little farther afield, but worth the trip, are the Norman Rockwell Museum (298-4100) in Stockbridge.
