Cross-Country and Snowshoeing

snowshoe-Jay PeakJay Peak has 20 km.of cross-country skiing that networks into 200 km. of touring trails in the area. Instruction and rentals are available. Included in the Nordic trail system are more than 5 km. of snowshoe trails. Naturalist-led tours on snowshoes are scheduled Tuesdays, Wednesdays and Saturdays from 4:30 – 6:30 p.m. and cost $15. Check with the Ski School Desk to register. Extended or group tours also can be arranged. For those who want to head out on their own, snowshoe rentals are available anytime through the rental shop.

Hazen's Notch Cross-Country Ski & Snowshoe Center (802-326-4799), about 10 miles away in Hazen's Notch, is owned and operated by the nonprofit Hazen's Notch Association. The 64 km. of groomed and backcountry trails include 16 km. of snowshoe-only trails. The views alone are worth the trip, plus the high elevation ensures bountiful snow. You'll find ski and snowshoe rentals, and instruction by appointment. Ask about naturalist-guided snowshoe tours and full-moon snowshoe tours.
