Other activities (Area
Code: 250)
You
can book a slew of activities through the resort's Guest Services
(423-4655): horse-drawn sleigh rides, torchlight run & BBQ,
snowmobiling tours, wildlife viewing, ice fishing, backcountry tours,
and dogsledding.
Choose from three cat-skiing operations:
You probably won't be able to book a stay at the highly respected
Island Lake Lodge (888- 422-8754) because they only allow 36 guests
per tour, but it's worth a try! Powder Cowboy Cat-Skiing Tours (423-3700
or 888- 422-8754) is now owned by Island Lake Lodge and has its
own Bull River Ranch, with terrain. Fernie Wilderness Adventures
(423-6704) takes you to terrain that's great for first-time cat-skiers.
This
is one small town that believes in staying healthy in mind, body
and spirit. Unwind after a hard day on the slopes at the Spa at
Lizard Creek Lodge (423-2057), with treatments including aromatherapy,
hydrotherapy and massages. You'll also find a hair
salon and esthetician here. In town, choose from Fernie
Mountain Massage Therapy Clinic (423-5522), Hydrotherapy Spa &
Massage Therapy Clinic (423-7667), Jade River Healing Center Chinese
Medicine Clinic (423-7667) and Fernie Chiropractic (423-4800). It's
also comforting to know the town has a hospital (423-4453).
If
you're interested in learning about Fernie's history, pick up a
copy of the Heritage Walking Tour booklet from the Fernie
Information Center in town. You'll also find enough shops
along 2nd Avenue to spend an afternoon browsing. There are several
Alpine sports stores, all worth checking out. If you're looking
for unique gifts, we recommend Stephanie's Glass & Art Studio
for custom-made stained glass and work by local artists, Ghostrider
Trading Co. for handcrafted items by local artisans and mountain-lifestyle
clothing, and Carosella Artworks for home décor and jewelry
(they have a shop in the mountain village too).
Pick up a copy of the Fernie Guide for other
activity suggestions.
