The perfectly groomed slopes of Bromont make it a dream for night
skiing and riding, its claim to fame in the region.
Bromont,
the Eastern Townships
ski area closest to Montreal, can be a very busy place, particularly
at night. Québécois are well-known for their love
of night skiing, and Bromont fills that fancy very well. About 75
percent of the terrain, including the terrain park, is lighted for
night skiing, which goes till 10 p.m. Sunday through Thursday and
10:44 p.m. Friday and Saturday.
The close proximity to Montreal
ensures steady business and a lively night life. Indeed, six times
during the season the resort stages Nuit Blanche, or white
night, in which you can ski or ride from 7 p.m. 3 a.m.
for C$21.75 (plus tax). These events are extremely popular, especially
with the college and 20-something set, with high-powered dancing
and partying in the bar until the wee hours.
Although
the trail map is dominated by diamonds, the trails are really intermediate.
Experts and advanced skiers will find that the cruisers are a great
way to give tired legs a break after skiing hard all week at Mont
Orford or Mont
Sutton. Grooming is meticulous, and on weekends, trails are
groomed three times a day. Most skiers will want to spend only a
day here because of limited terrain, but the areas expansion
onto its eastern face, in a section called Versant du Lac, helps
to add texture and terrain.
The mountain has a lower
elevation than other resorts in the area, so it often rains here
when it snows elsewhere. Bromont gives you 30 minutes to test conditionsif
youre not pleased, exchange your ticket for a coupon to return
at no extra charge.
New for 2005/06, Bromont
has developed a new mountainside area called Versant des Cantons,
with 13 beginner and intermediate runs and a quad lift; added two
runs on Versant du Lac and one run on Versant du Village; and added
lights to six more runs to increase options for night skiing (46
trails are now lit).
