HIGHEST FLYING SNOW SHOW ON EARTH TRAVELS TO PREMIER SKI RESORTS THIS SEASON

All-Star Aerial Show tours American Skiing Company resorts with its
aerial acrobatic ski and snowboard show

Olympians, world champions and National Team skiers and snowboarders will launch a line-up of high-flying aerial shows at American Skiing Company resorts this season with the Budweiser All-Star Aerial show. The team, headed by world-renowned aerialist Jack Fleming, is made up of Olympic-caliber freestyle skiers and riders who perform single and simultaneous inverted aerials on snow, with shows typically set to music and fireworks.

"The turnout increases each year we hold this spectacular tour," said Jim Lacey, corporate senior vice president of sales and marketing for American Skiing Company. "Both young and young-at-heart really let out the 'ooohhss' and aaaahhhss' when they see how talented these athletes are. The hardcore skiers and snowboarders feel deep appreciation for the team's talent. For kids, it's like going to the circus. We’ve developed an excellent relationship with Jack and his team, as well as our title sponsor, Budweiser, which ultimately provides an incredible show of excitement and athleticism for our guests."

The Saturday evening acrobatics show, complete with fireworks and music, is by far the most popular for spectators and resort guests, but every show leaves the crowd breathless. The Budweiser All-Star Aerial team is on tour for three months performing at American Skiing Company resorts across the United States. Shows are at noon and 8 p.m. on Saturday and noon on Sunday. The tour schedule and individual resort contacts are:

Jan. 18 & Jan. 20, 2003 – Steamboat, Colorado
Jan. 24-26, 2003 – Sunday River, Maine
Feb. 8-9, 2003 – Killington, Vermont
Feb. 15-16, 2003 – Mount Snow, Vermont
Feb. 22-23, 2003 – Sugarloaf/USA, Maine

THE FIRST INTERNATIONAL SKI DANCING FESTIVAL TAKES PLACE AT BRETTON WOODS MARCH 7 - 9, 2003

Tom Meyers, Marketing Director of Wachusett Mountain Ski Area, has invited participants in The First International Ski Dancing Festival to practice at Wachusett at the beginning of their 10 day tour. The Festival will take place at Bretton Woods on March 7-9, 2003.

"We want to show our Japanese members, who are traveling clear across the world for this festival, the best of New England. Wachusett and Bretton Woods are gems in the industry and we're proud to be invited to these areas," explains Charles Malfetti, founder of the International Ski Dancing Association.

The Japanese Ski Dancing Champions, Mariko & Hiro Shimauchi, contacted the Malfettis last year via the Internet. They shared their ski dancing videos and ideas about helping the fledgling sport to grow. They will meet, for the first time in March.

For several years, the Malfettis and select members of their performing troop, have entertained the skiers and riders at ski areas all over the U.S. and Canada, with their home base at Bretton Woods.

Hilary Nangle writes for the Times Record: "Charles & Cheryl Malfetti float in each other's arms over the white carpet. She follows his lead, turning in his arms. The seperate for a minute and pirouette, then rejoin hands and gracefully glide and swirl down the slope."

People of all ages are amazed by this new and innovative sport. Terry Shearn of the New York Spirngfield Journal states, "I saw a couple dancing down the slope wearing skis. They looked like Torvill & Dean on ice, or like Astaire & Rogers used to look on stage."

ASPEN SKIING COMPANY INSTITUTES FREE PARKING FOR GREEN VEHICLES

Aspen Skiing Company (ASC), in Colorado, announced that free parking will be provided at its mountains for guests driving hybrid-electric vehicles. The policy was designed to reward owners of the low-emission and fuel-efficient vehicles, and encourage their use.

"Hybrid cars offer comparable benefits to car pooling, at least from an emissions standpoint. We provide free parking for car-poolers, so it makes sense to do the same for drivers of Hybrids. We think they should be rewarded for their choice," said Auden Schendler, ASC's Director of Environmental Affairs.

Owners of hybrid-electric vehicles will be allowed free parking at Lot A and Two Creeks in Snowmass, and at Aspen Highlands. ASC will educate parking attendants about the vehicles so staff will be able to identify the cars. Vehicles that qualify include the Honda Insight, Civic Hybrid and the Toyota Prius.

Hybrid-electric vehicles combine the internal combustion engine of a conventional vehicle with the battery and electric motor of an electric vehicle, resulting in twice the fuel economy of conventional cars. This combination offers the extended range and rapid refueling that consumers expect from a conventional vehicle with a significant portion of the energy and environmental benefits of an electric vehicle.

As of Dec. 1, 2003, approximately 30,000 hybrids have been sold in the United States, which is equivalent to less than 1 percent of Honda and Toyota's total output.

ASC has been recognized for its environmental work internationally, in the U.S. Congress, and through numerous prestigious awards. ASC has garnered eight Mountain Sports Media Silver Eagle Awards and three Golden Eagle Awards for overall environmental excellence.

Alpine Meadows Ski Resort now offers a $19 full-day lift ticket valid for Kangaroo chair only, accessing the resort’s new terrain park, superpipe, and boardercross course. The new park and pipe lift ticket will be available for ages 13 and older, valid seven days a week, excluding Presidents’ Day weekend (February 15 & 16).

"The new park and pipe ticket gives riders an affordable alternative to access the one chairlift servicing the park and pipe.

Alpine Meadows is able to offer this unique lift ticket because of the park and pipe’s convenient base area location. "We are the only major resort in the region that can offer a terrain park specific ticket because of the easy accessibility," said Brad Wilson, Alpine Meadows Director of Marketing. "One lift access all terrain features – right in the base area."

BIG WHITE SKI RESORT’S (BRITISH COLUMBIA, CANADA) SUPER PIPE IS NOW OPEN

A Super Pipe is a larger size half pipe with longer, easier to ride transitions. Located off the Speculation run accessible from the Ridge Rocket Express chairlift, the new Super Pipe is the official size of an Olympic competition pipe at 450 feet long with a 17 foot radial transition. The development of the new Super Pipe is a welcome addition and puts Big White Ski Resort within the elite resorts of North America and is second in British Columbia to feature this product.

"We are thrilled to be offering this new product to our freestyle skiers and snowboarders," commented Michael J. Ballingall, Vice President. "We hope new school enthusiasts will utilize this area to improve their skills and we look forward to hosting larger, world-class competitions."

A new state of the art pipe-grooming machine has been used to create the pipe. Snowmaking is required to create harder snow for the pipe walls in addition to the dry powder snow the resort receives in abundance. "We've pumped over 4 million gallons of water onto this area," said Ballingall.
